Welsh Fencing is delighted to select the following athletes to represent Wales at the 2025 Cadet Winton over the weekend of the 21st-22nd December 2025 at Bromsgrove School, Worcestershire.
The Cadet Winton is a long-standing event that brings fencers from across the UK together for two days of fun, fencing and camaraderie
On the 12th-13th July 25 our senior regional welsh team came together in a rather warm Nottingham for the Winton cup. It was a great weekend of learning, competing and meeting lots of new people. Thank you to everyone who took part and allowed us to come together as a team, you all fenced so well and really brought the welsh team spirit with you. Special mention to Emma, Charlotte, Florence and Ayse who all are under the age of 16 and for some it was their first ever senior competition they all fenced amazingly despite everyone being much older than them.
Following the Cardiff Vet Open this past weekend I am please to share the following selection recommendations for the up and coming Veterans Winton Cup taking place at Lilleshall National Sports Centre on 20th/21st September.
The selection recommendations were made by Marion Thomas, Phil Shepherd Foster and myself using the Vet Selection Policy (Veteran Selection Policy).
The lastest Vet Rankings can be found here: Veterans' Ranking Lists
Good luck to the team!
We are pleased to announce the team selected to represent Wales at the 75th Winton Cup taking place on 12th/13th July at the Lea Westwood Sports Centre, Clifton Campus, Nottingham Trent University, NG11 8NS
These selections were recommended to the board by the WF selectors as per the selection policy Welsh Fencing Selection Policy

Over the weekend of 21st/22nd September the Veteran Winton Cup was held at a rather damp Billesley Indoor Tennis Center in Birmingham – we were one of 10 regional teams vying for the title from across the UK. I was proud to captain the team this year and with the usual spread of seasoned Welsh stalwarts, new caps as well as a couple of honorary Welshies (shout out to Helen and Dominique) we stepped onto the piste together - some of us with Daffodils in hand or more accurately on heads!
Welsh Fencing are pleased to announce the following team selections for the Veteran Winton Cup.
The event will take place at The Billesley Indoor Tennis Centre, Wheelers Lane, Birmingham B13 0ST, over the weekend of 21st/22nd September. Good luck to the team!

A message from Marc:
Hi team
I hope you are all well and fully recovered from the festivities of last weekend?
Welsh Fencing are pleased to announce the following team selections for the Senior Winton Cup being held in a new venue this year.
The event will take place at The Billesley Indoor Tennis Centre, Wheelers Lane, Birmingham B13 0ST, over the weekend of 6th/7th July. Good luck to the team!
The board of Welsh Fencing would like to thank those fencers that sent in their expression of interest to represent the Welsh region in the upcoming Senior Winton Cup. The board very much appreciate your commitment and desire to fence at this event.
Unfortunately, we have only had enough responses to field 3 of the 6 teams required, and it is with regret that we are therefore not able to enter this year’s event.
The board looked at a range of options to try and fill the teams, but we understand that there were many other commitments that weekend for fencers across Wales which has led to the unavailability of many of our fencers. To enter only half a team does not align with the character and values of the Winton Cup.
We hope that this is a unique set of circumstances in 2023, and we will endeavour to send full teams to compete for this Cup in future years.
In a very hot Nottingham there was real excitement in the room as old friends were reacquainted, faced each other on the piste, danced the night away in Nottingham night clubs, and came to slightly regret it in the morning!
